As you may have seen, I did not post anything during the month of august, and the reason is simple : didn’t find time !
Well, now that the summer’s over, and before we dive back into work, here’s a quick look back at one hell of a season! We didn’t hit the road on the bike as much as we wanted — not nearly enough, to be honest. But we didn’t lose out, because we still made it to England, Greece, and the Madeira Islands, visiting friends and discovering new places. Not too shabby, right?
And while in Portugal, we went deep down into what has become over time a favorite hobby of mine : finding the best pastéis de nata in town !
This little treat out in Portugal just keeps blewing my mind. It’s this flaky, buttery pastry with a creamy, sweet filling that hits like a smooth ride down an open highway. Crunchy on the outside, soft as a dream on the inside, and when you dust a little cinnamon on top? Damn, it’s like heaven in a bite. Now, I ain’t usually a fancy dessert kinda guy, but these things? They’re worth the miles. If you ever find yourself rollin’ through Portugal, make a pit stop and grab a few. Trust me, even a tough road warrior like you’s gonna melt.
I must confess I’ve not tried yet the ones in Lisbon Belém pastry shop, and eventough you did excellent Madeira, you did not beat that pastry shop on das Flores street, Porto. (One day I will devote an entire paragraph in our Top Picks page to this endless quest of the perfect pastéis !)
